ABOUT THE PROJECT
AMIT’s contract with NSW Police has been running since 2008 and involves deployment, servicing and support of Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) devices to the NSW Police vehicle fleet.
CLIENT REQUIREMENTS
Project Location
MDTs (Toughbooks) have been deployed to vehicles at station nodes throughout metropolitan and regional areas, statewide. Toughbooks operate the mobile CAD application and automatic number plate recognition cameras, and provide officers with instant access to information on people of interest through police systems, 24-hours a day.
Installation complexity
AMIT has deployed more than 3000 MDT devices and associated servicing and support, docking stations, and vehicle- specific mounting brackets to the NSWP. There are 1500 devices in the active fleet — we are currently engaged with NSWP to roll-out the third replacement. We also assisted NSWP to acquire Australian Design Rules (ADR) compliance on all supplied in-vehicle solutions.
MDT Project
The MDT deployment includes:
■ integration and design
■ pre-configuration and installation
■ managed service, including on-going system integration and support.
■ same day on-site replacement service of all hardware (next day for regional locations, that is, outside greater metropolitan Sydney).
■ quarterly reviews, report on performance against SLA’s, identify any hardware faults/trends that may need to be addressed
■ on-going updated of asset register of deployed devices as units are swapped out and moved around.

Mobile Cad 2 Project:
AMIT deployed over 1000 CF-19 Toughbook’s for NSWP’s new Mobile Cad 2 project over a 4-month period. AMIT pre-configured and warehoused over 1000 CF-19 Toughbook’s for NSWP while attending over 55 police stations spread throughout the state, swapping out Toughbook’s and fitting each police vehicle with a GPS receiver and shutdown timer.
CF-18 Battery replacement Project:
At the request of NSWP mobile systems support group. AMIT coordinated the replacement of over 400 CF-18 batteries throughout the state and ensured the old batteries were returned to AMIT for safe disposal.
In-vehicle solutions design:
AMIT currently works with NSWP fleet department to design and develop mounting solutions for NSWP mobile computing equipment, light bar/siren controls and torch plates. Once the design is signed off by NSWP fleet department, AMIT acquires Type ADR approval for NSWP.

OUTCOME
By enabling officers to capture, retrieve and submit information in the field, AMIT have almost eliminated the need to return to base to complete paperwork. This provides enormous time savings to the individuals and cost savings to the organisation and increases the frontline capabilities of officers and the NSWP.
